A circular steel rod ten feet in length, of cross-section area, 2in², is loaded to its yield point stress. The modulus of elasticity of the steel is 30x106 lbf/in2 and its yield point stress is 36,000 lbf/in2. The event is that the rod is loaded smoothly to its yield point stress.
